Delta County School District 50J
Superintendent of Schools
Delta County, Colorado
An Executive Leadership Opportunity
Located on Colorado's Western Slope, Delta County blends deep agricultural roots with forward-thinking innovation. Farming, ranching, and family-owned enterprises sit alongside renewable energy and agrivoltaic projects, reflecting a commitment to stewardship and progress. Schools are central to civic life, and district leadership is known, trusted, and visible.
The district serves approximately 4,300 students across multiple small towns and rural communities, including the Technical College of the Rockies, with an annual budget of about $94 million and roughly 740 employees. The system is small enough to move and adapt, yet large enough for districtwide initiatives to produce visible, lasting outcomes.
The Role
The Superintendent serves as the district's Chief Executive Officer, reporting directly to the Board of Education. The role includes strategic, instructional, and operational leadership across all schools and departments, including:
- Leading development and execution of the district's strategic plan and Board priorities

- Managing a $94M budget with a strong commitment to fiscal responsibility and transparency
- Overseeing human resources, facilities, safety, transportation, and operations
- Serving as the primary spokesperson and civic leader for the district
- Building strong relationships with staff, families, community partners, and local governments
The Ideal Candidate
This opportunity is designed for a high-energy, results-oriented leader who enjoys complexity, pace, and full-scope responsibility. The ideal candidate:
- Thrives in a fast-paced, highly visible executive role
- Is proactive, decisive, and comfortable managing multiple priorities
- Builds trust quickly and motivates others through strong communication and presence
- Translates strategy into action and holds self and others accountable for results
